Why is it that me and my ex can never stop contacting each other?

My ex and I were together for 2 years and have been broken up for almost 1 year now. We are still in contact. I don't know why that is....I don't have anybody new and maybe he doesn't. This year so far we have only seen each other 2 times and talk every now and then. When I think about him I always think about how y he is and I miss the fun times. I know I still care. I have told him that I would like to get back together but he has never said it back although he says he love me still. What is this? Is it horrible that we still talk? The only thing I am afraid of is that we will end up in bed together and that is something that is hard to keep at bay considering we are attracted to each other. I have feelings still and don't want to go there with . How can I keep this strictly platonic? Why do we always still contact each other? Can you guys give me some advice and answer my questions?
