Wound vac dressing changes?

I recently had an InD for hidradenitis suppurativa and had a wound vac attached. The first dressing change involved a black sponge directly on the wound and hurt like no other. The next two used white sponges and didnt hurt that much. Now, they used a mesh called renew and I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with it. Does it hurt as much as the black sponge ?
