Questions about Zunes, Ipods, Mp3's ?

Ok I'm not completely technology illiterate, but I'm trying to decided what i should get. I really want an Ipod but I don't have an Apple computer (I've heard it makes it a lot more difficult) Also is it true that you have to buy EVERY song for the Ipod or can you put songs from your own CD's on it? Ok and on to my other delema, I was also considering a Zune herd it's much easier and more efficient than a Ipod. But I've also read that they can have a lot of glitches. I was also wondering if there was such a thing as a 8 GB mp3 with actually works (I bought an 80 gb one once and had a lot of problems.) SO, hears my question inn general , with an old computer thats not by apple, not wanting to pay for music, should I get and Ipod Zune or a high copasity MP3? I swear I'll give point I need major help T.T
