When a cartoon character is created, does each pose of that character have to be copyrighted?

We have a cartoon depiction of a character that I created, and we want to use the cartoon in different poses for different purposes, like brochures, t-shirts, our website, etc. One employee of a law firm said that we had to copyright each pose of that character. Is that true? If so, can we submit several poses under one copyright application?
